Determining when your pet would benefit from dog and cat euthanasia can be one of the most difficult parts of pet ownership. The McGehee Clinic for Animals team is here to provide your beloved companion with
high quality
veterinary medicine in all aspects, including cat and dog euthanasia in Memphis, TN. Your veterinarian can help you decide if end of life care is the best option for your pet. We understand this requires a lot of consideration, and we are here to help you make the most informed decision possible.
Knowing When It’s Time to Say Goodbye
If you’re concerned about your pet’s quality of life, your veterinarian can perform a physical examination to assess your dog or cat’s overall well-being and help determine if your companion would benefit from pet end of life care. When performing the exam, here is what your veterinarian will consider:
- Has your pet stopped eating or drinking?
- Is your pet having abnormal accidents around the house?
- Can they move or walk without help?
- Does your pet seem to be in pain?
- Is your pet acting more lethargic?
- Do they have persistent diarrhea or vomiting?
What to Expect
When it’s time to say goodbye to your pet, our team is dedicated to meeting your needs to the best our ability. We will review the paperwork and our dog and cat euthanasia procedure with you. It is always our intention to be respectful of you and your pet throughout this process, and we welcome you to stay with your dog or cat the entire time if you’re comfortable doing so. To reduce potential stress on your pet, they will be sedated prior to receiving the euthanasia injection. Once your pet is peacefully asleep, we will administer the euthanasia injection and cover their body with a soft blanket after you have left the room. We also offer various ways to memorialize your pet and would be happy to go over those with you as well.
